What is Solar Readiness?

Solar Readiness is an independent solar design review carried out before installation. It assesses whether solar is suitable for your home and designs a system tailored to your property and energy usage. This ensures installation decisions are based on verified information rather than assumptions.

Why does Solar Readiness cost £75?

Solar installations typically cost £10,000–£15,000.

Solar Readiness ensures the system is designed correctly before installation begins.

If you proceed with installation, the £75 fee is credited toward the installation cost.

If solar is unsuitable for your property, the £75 is refunded.

What information do you need for Solar Readiness?

To design the system accurately, we may ask for a few details about your home and energy usage. This usually includes:

• A recent electricity bill or 12 months of energy usage
• Photographs of the roof and property
• Location of the electric meter and consumer unit
• Basic information about how electricity is used in your household

We will also discuss future plans that may affect energy usage, such as:

• Electric vehicles
• Heat pumps
• Home extensions
• Changes in household occupancy

This helps ensure the system design is future-proofed where possible.

Do I need a battery with solar?

In many homes, a battery can significantly improve how solar energy is used when it is sized correctly.

 Solar Readiness assesses:

• the type and size of battery suitable for the property
• how electricity is used throughout the day
• the potential return on investment
• electricity tariff structures

A battery allows excess solar electricity generated during the day to be stored and used later.

Service-Specific Questions

What exactly do I get in my Solar Readiness report?

Your independent report is a complete roadmap for your home’s solar potential. We provide a clear, technical specification that you can use to get accurate quotes from any installer. It includes:

Bespoke Layout: A custom plan showing the most efficient panel placement for your roof.
Verified Performance: Independent estimates of how much electricity your specific home will generate.
Equipment Guide: Unbiased advice on the types of panels, inverters, and batteries best suited to your needs.
Payback Analysis: A detailed look at your savings and how long the system takes to pay for itself.

This document acts as your 'gold standard' specification, allowing you to get accurate, comparable quotes from any installer without the guesswork.

How do Time-of-Use tariffs affect my solar savings?

Time-of-Use (TOU) tariffs are a critical part of modern solar economics. Our report assesses how your system can interact with variable pricing structures. By pairing solar with a battery, you can store energy when grid prices are low (or when the sun is shining) and avoid using electricity during peak cost periods. We explicitly model these scenarios to ensure your system is configured for the highest possible return on investment based on your specific daily usage patterns.

What is EPVS?

EPVS stands for Energy Performance Validation Scheme.

It is an independent process designed to validate the performance estimates used in solar proposals. Before any installation takes place, a third-party EPVS validation provider may contact the homeowner to confirm key information used in the modelling.

This acts as a secondary safeguarding mechanism, helping ensure the estimates used in the report are accurate and transparent.

How much can solar reduce my electricity bills?

Every home uses electricity differently.

During Solar Readiness we review how energy is used during weekdays and weekends, including:

• daytime usage

• evening usage

• household patterns

This helps ensure the system modelling is as accurate as possible.

Savings will depend on factors such as:

• system size

• household energy usage

• battery storage

• electricity tariffs.

Do you install solar systems?

Solar Clinic does not carry out installations.

Our role is to design and verify the solar system before installation takes place.

Installation is carried out by vetted MCS-certified partners.

These installers are assessed to ensure they:

• install systems to the highest MCS standards

• deliver excellent customer service

• provide reliable aftercare and support

Solar Clinic continues to review installer performance to ensure these standards are maintained.

What happens if something goes wrong with the system?

This depends on the payment option.

If you purchase the system outright:

• the system is protected by manufacturer warranties

• the installer provides workmanship and installation warranties

If you choose the Monthly Solar Plan:

• repairs and replacements are covered for the life of the agreement

• monitoring, maintenance and protection are included

This ensures the system continues operating as expected.

Am I too early to be looking at solar?

Energy prices remain influenced by global energy markets and can change significantly over time.

Many homeowners consider solar as a way to increase energy independence and reduce reliance on grid electricity.

Solar Readiness simply ensures that when you decide to install solar, the system is designed properly and based on accurate information.

What if the system doesn’t perform as expected?

Solar Readiness ensures performance estimates are based on verified modelling and real usage data.

This helps ensure system design decisions are made carefully before installation.

What if solar isn’t suitable for my property?

Not every property is suitable for solar.

Solar Readiness assesses roof orientation, shading and expected system performance.

If solar is unsuitable, the £75 Solar Readiness fee is refunded.

What if installers are just trying to sell a system?

Solar Clinic works independently of installers and manufacturers.

Our role is to verify the system design before installation proceeds.

This ensures recommendations are based on what works best for the homeowner.

What if something goes wrong years later?

Solar systems are designed to operate for 20–25 years or more.

Installations are carried out by vetted partners who provide warranty protection and aftercare.

Monthly solar plans may also include long-term monitoring, maintenance and repair protection.
